We at MHC are proud to announce that we have been awarded the 2024 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) in the amount of $1 million, which will be used to replace our 1974 Mack Tower Truck.
This kind of federal funding is crucial to our mission.. it provides life-saving equipment that protects our firefighters while also saving our local taxpayers money by reducing the financial burden on our community and surrounding communities. Our Mack has served, and continues to serve proudly, but over 50 years old, it’s time to let her rest.
We thank FEMA and the AFG program for their continued support of America’s fire service, and we look forward to putting this equipment into service to keep both our firefighters and our residents safe.
The AFG program is highly competitive nationwide, and we are honored to have secured this grant to benefit the residents and taxpayers of Juniata County directly.
Yes, the grant is a huge number, undeniably, but that is only a portion of the cost. We have a lot more work to do and more grants to pursue. The Mack is proudly in service and still running the calls. It is a workhorse, no doubt, and we are honored to operate such a machine. As these grant steps unfold, understand this is not a quick process. We are looking several years until completed. Until then, it’s businessas usual.
