| MIFFLINTOWN — Despite roadwork signs being in place but concealed, the state Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is gearing up to commence a project impacting a traffic signal in Mifflintown.
This afternoon, PennDOT unveiled its intentions for paving and enhancing drainage along Route 35, stretching from Stop 35 to Butchershop Road in Fermanagh Township. The project is slated to kick off on April 1, with a projected completion date in late October.
The endeavor encompasses a thorough overhaul of the roadway, including the installation of supports for traffic signals, radar detection systems, Intelligent Transportation System cameras and devices, pavement base drains, guide rail, piping, pavement markings, and assorted construction elements, as per a news release.
Clarifying further, a spokesperson indicated that the radar detection systems mentioned are in fact traffic signal sensors.
State College-based Glenn O. Hawbaker has been contracted for the $3.1 million initiative.
"This undertaking aims to enhance the ride quality and overall safety for travelers by either replacing or addressing issues with pavement, concrete, pavement markings, and guide rail," remarked a PennDOT spokesperson.
Minor delays are anticipated once the project commences, with a daylight alternating traffic control setup in place and flaggers deployed for assistance. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant for sudden stops as workers will be present on the roadway.
The project was initially disclosed by Fermanagh Township supervisors during a township meeting on Monday, April 10, 2023. During that session, supervisors revealed PennDOT's plans to install a new traffic light at the intersection of Route 35 and Parkside Drive, as well as upgrade the existing traffic light at the Route 35/Industrial Park and Butchershop roads intersection. Further details regarding these plans are expected to be released later this week. |
